Have you seen our new go! section?

It's in today's paper and available in various locations throughout Montgomery.

I was in charge of revamping a large portion of the section, working with our features department to get some new and exciting stuff in there. Features copy editor Stephanie Wilson developed the center pullout.

So if you like it, let me know. Or let Features Editor Rick Harmon or Assistant Features Editor Allison Griffin know.

We'd like to hear what you think.

I took Rolling Stone's rock 'n' roll quiz in its special anniversary issue. This is often a dangerous task. When you take quizzes like this your opinion can often be ... untainted by reality. Maybe it's just me.

I look at those quizzes and I think "A quiz? I shall quickly decimate this feeble assault on my pop-culture omnipotence!"

Then I get, like, three right...out of 500. Maybe that's a slight overstatement.

But with this one I did OK. My knowledge apparently exceeds the usual VH1 special. Incidentally, I'm also smarter than the average bear.

It was a VH1 special, ironically, that cost me an answer. On a question on rock myths I went with something I remember from VH1. Turns out that was incorrect. Common belief states that Mama Cass did die of choking on a ham sandwich. On the special, her sister disputed this. That's what I was remembering.

The lesson? Too much of my brain is being innapropriately used to store things like math and social skills. I need an upgrade so I can remember which KISS member had the highest-charting song from the four solo albums band members released on the same day.

It was Ace Frehley.

I got that one wrong, too.

Looking forward to the release of The Raconteurs' album tomorrow. I love the first single "Steady, As She Goes."

I'll let you know what I think about it after a few spins.

My current soundtrack:

"Steady, As She Goes" by The Raconteurs
"Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve
"Severed Hand" by Pearl Jam
"Hands Open" by Snow Patrol
"Distant Sun" by Crowded House
"Comatose" by Pearl Jam
"Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured" by Arctic Monkeys
"These Things" by She Wants Revenge

I'm liking the new Snow Patrol album "Eyes Open." It's a smooth follow-up to the hit "Final Straw." There's building on the sound, adding some nuances, but nothing crazy. I think I like "Final Straw" better, though.

Also, in the latest Q Review (think British Spin) there is a listing of the 50 worst albums of all time. Duran Duran's "Thank You" takes the prize. A good album? Definitely not. The worst ever? Well, I guess someone has to be.

So I'm a bit cooked from the battle of the bands on Saturday. Not used to being out during the daytime for extended periods. It's not good for us vampires, you know.

The whole co-hosting thing was an interesting experience. I'm still trying to decide if I managed to avoid coming off like a complete idiot (Right now I'm going with no). But hey, it was fun no matter what. If you showed up you got free music on a beautiful day. If you missed it, you missed out.

Congrats to Subcurrent and Clint & Kip. We'll see you on stage at Jubilee CityFest.

Be sure to come out to the Battle of the Bands on Saturday. Support your favorite band, use the opportunity to discover some area bands or just come out and enjoy a day down by the river.

If you don't like music, just come out to heckle me. I'll be helping to emcee the event. I hope it's a good hair day.

The new Pearl Jam album is incredible. It's got loads of energy, tons of guitars, pounding rhythm and everything else you need in a great rock album.

I must admit I've gotten away from PJ for the past few years. I was onboard for "Ten," and "Vs." I came back for "Yield." I just never stayed with them.

When I was younger I loved the energy of the songs. All young men have angst and seek it out in music at some point, I suppose. Now I appreciate the songcraft a little more and hear a new side to the songs.

It's always good to rediscover the music of your youth.
