So it's time for Christmas. And as I have yet to begin my shopping for dreading the masses of humanity awaiting me at the stores (I put off the Internet shopping a bit too long) one other mark in the bad column comes to mind.

Muzak.

You know, it sort of sounds like songs you know only more bland and without words. The holiday variety I find especially grating.

I hear a lot of people knocking Christmas music. It's not entirely warranted. Sure there are some truly atrocious versions of the classics out there as well as some originals that make you want to string yourself up along with the lights.

So here is my personal holiday soundtrack:

"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" by Coldplay

"Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" by Bruce Springsteen

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan

"Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" by John Lennon

"Donde Esta Santa Claus?" by Guster

"Spotlight On Christmas" by Rufus Wainright

"Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" by U2

"Christmas in Hollis" by Run DMC

"Merry Christmas Baby" by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band

"Green Sleeves" by just about anyone (this one has always been a personal fave for some reason)

Merry Christmas.
