Remember them? Here's one guy's group I wasn't expecting to hear from again. It should make Beavis & Butthead's neighbor, Stewart, pretty happy. Sunday, October 22, 2006
So here's what I've been listening to lately: "Summersong" by The Decemberists "Sam's Town" by The Killers "Here It Goes Again" by OK Go "Hey Kids" by Jet "Like A Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan "Gone For Good" by The Shins Saturday, October 21, 2006
I'm a bit disappointed in myself. Well, moreso than usual. I bought the latest OK Go album. And I kinda like it. I fought the good fight. I tried to resist. I just couldn't help myself. It's THAT SONG. Aside from the video on YouTube, I've played "Here It Goes Again" quite a few times now. (sigh) Wednesday, October 11, 2006
I like the latest album by The Decemberists but I'm not sure I'm smart enough to fully appreciate they lyrics. Colin Meloy, the singer and songwriter of the band, has obviously read a lot more books than I have. I was glad to hear the parole of John Lennon's killer was denied. Mark David Chapman shouldn't see the world as a free man. The Associated Press says he's up again in two years. Let's hope he loses that one too. Monday, October 09, 2006
I love the new Jet album. I can't stop listening to it. It's a strong progression from the first album. Great second albums = whatever made the first one great + something new that doesn't clash with the first thing. I'm not loving the Killers album. They didn't follow the equation. They seem to have lost the shine from "Hot Fuss." There's a sort of pretension to the lyrics that the songs don't back up. Sorry guys. The whole new Duran Duran thing was going well. Speaking of Duran Duran, I read in Rolling Stone that Timbaland is working with them. I think I'm coming dangerously close to hearing it all. Wednesday, October 04, 2006
Bought a little new music today. Something I haven't done in a while. Gotta love gift cards (they were for a recent birthday, but feel free to send them for no reason at all). New stuff from The Killers, Jet and The Decemberists. Killers' stuff is OK at first listen. It's definitely not "Hot Fuss" part two. Not as shiny and bright as that. A bit more gritty. The band may find it's hard to be gritty with a synthesizer. Love the new Jet. One review I read said they are sounding too much like Oasis. But I like Oasis, so I guess I'm set. Haven't gotten to The Decemberists yet. So we'll see. |
